What is an online lurker?

You might have heard of the term "lurker" before, but are not sure what it means. So, what is an online lurker? Read more to find out if you are one!

What is an online lurker?

According to Wikipedia the definition of an online lurker is: "In Internet culture, a lurker is typically a member of an online community who observes, but does not actively participate". In other words, online lurkers simply consume content and do not actively participate. 

Most people are lurkers

Most people actually lurks online; they are happy to be consuming content without actively participating, interacting and  responding. They search, view and read and account for the majority of online users. 

Lurkers can be more valuable

The lurkers can be as valuable or more valuable than those who participate actively. Lurkers are just as likely to get in touch with you as the one's that are active.
